PMP vs ACP? how to choose.

As the importance of certifications is realized among professionals and they find some suitable options too, then the real question arises is, what should they go for?

When there are plenty of options available in the market, people often get confused about what to choose. While doing our research we came across many questions that whether they should this or that. The majority were confused between choosing ACP or PMP?

Before digging into the decision, let’s have a little introduction first that we wrote for some of our previous blogs:

Introduction of PMP:

PMP is an abbreviation for Project Management Professional which is an internationally known certification being offered by Project Management Institute. The individuals who excel in this certifications earns themselves a good repute in global management standards and are linked with other online PMP certification holders worldwide. By having a PMP certification in your hand, the individual can take their employer in confidence that formalized training and tested knowledge is being brought to the table.

Introduction of ACP:

ACP is an abbreviation for Agile Certified Practitioner and it carries a high value professionally because it is a perfect combination of agile training working on agile projects and examining agile fundamentals and tools. Now the newbies must be thinking, what is agile? Well, it is defined as a monotonous approach to deliver software in a cumulative manner from the start of the project rather than delivering the whole project at the end. This methodology is vastly applied in project management. This cuts a certain project into smaller reports instead of just reporting in the end so that minor changed can be made if needed according to the demands of customers. Through this approach customer also ensures that proper quality is being delivered to them and they remain satisfied.

As the clear concept can be understood, let’s go for which one is better? Or which one is preferable over the other.

Explanation:

It will be utterly unfair if we judge the certifications and give a final verdict that this is better or this is not, but what can be done is that which one is better for you? Or which one is better for your organization? Because all the methodologies and certifications are based on what is demanded in a certain business industry or organization.

What is required at one place or department may not be important at all at the other, for example ITIL is of no use for people who does not belong to the information technology department.

Very first step you need to take is to check what process is being followed by your organization, whether it is V-Process, Waterfall models or Agile Sprints.

·         If the company is following Agile techniques then what you should be doing is, get the scrum master one first and then ACP.

·         But if it is using Waterfall method then you should be going with PMP.
